Looking out for the interests of Northeast Mississippi

Now that the 2011 Mississippi legislative session is over, I wanted to share with you some of the things we accomplished this year at the state Capitol and throughout my term as your state senator. Even though Mississippi continues to struggle through diffi cult fi nancial times, we have managed to do a lot
to improve our state and make like better for everyone.

As a lifelong resident of Northeast Mississippi, I have fought to make life better for you and everyone in
our state.

I have insisted we fund public education every year at the highest possible level. I have helped increase
unemployment benefi ts. I have worked closely with local and state economic development offi cials to
help lure new jobs to our area. And I have worked with state Senate leaders to adequately fund
Mississippi government during the worst economic recession since World War II.

I want to thank everyone who has called, written or visited me at the Mississippi Capitol this year and
throughout the past four years. I value your input. And I have done my best to make sure your voice is
heard on the fl oor of the state Senate and in legislative committee meetings. I couldn't have succeeded
without your help, your support and your input.

As you read this website and see what we have accomplished in Jackson, please know that I remain
honored to represent you in the state Senate. Serving you has been and continues to be a privilege.
Sincerely,

Signature

Fighting For Issues That Matter

Balancing Our Budget

This economic recession has been tough on you and our entire state. Yet, I and other lawmakers have funded state government and state services at the highest possible level every year with a balanced budget.

Funding For Our Schools

I greatly respect the thousands of people who give their time and talent to work for our state. Our employees are loyal. They sometimes work under difficult, stressful circumstances.

Supporting Local Firefighters

I've always been a big supporter of volunteer fire depart- ments, in which residents in rural communities band together to provide much-needed protection for their fellow residents against the threat of fires.
